Child Health Concerns
Fever, feeding difficulty, unusual tiredness or a rash in a child may have many causes, and children's symptoms can change quickly.
Which doctor to consult
A paediatrician (pediatrician), also called a child specialist, is the doctor to consult for a child's fever, feeding or growth concerns, a rash, developmental milestones and routine vaccination.
When to consult a doctor
A fever that persists beyond a couple of days, a child who appears unusually unwell or is not feeding or drinking, or any symptom that concerns you as a parent, warrants a paediatric evaluation.
When this is a medical emergency
Difficulty breathing, a limp or unresponsive child, a high fever with a stiff neck or with a rash that does not fade under pressure, or repeated vomiting requires emergency care immediately. Please call 108 or go directly to the nearest emergency department.
This page offers general information and is not a diagnosis. It cannot assess your individual condition; a consultation with one of our doctors can.
